When the time came for Landon’s birthday party if was, of course, Planes themed! I swear he’s obsessed! This year we did a small family party and my 2 best friends brought their kids.
I ALWAYS make his birthday cakes…Here are all the ones I’ve done up until now…
1st Birthday Chuggington Theme. There weren’t any decorations or anything out yet so we had to wing it!
Gnomeo and Juliet cake. Same thing…Improvisation at it’s finest…
Last year was a little easier. He still loves dinosaurs!
This year I wanted to try using fondant. I knew I needed to start out slow so I did a regular cake. I used 3 cake mixes and did a 3 layer cake in the order of blue, orange, blue for our party theme. I always put icing in between each layer. Since I was using blue icing on the outside I put it between the layers as well. Once I got the cake as smooth as possible I got my fondant ready. I went the easy route and ordered a cloud shaped cookie cutter a couple of months ago. So I bought a small fondant roller and cut 1 cloud at a time until I got comfortable with what I was doing.
I felt like it was too plain so I added some glitter icing dots and added his name. I also went along the bottom edge with my wave tip. Last I added the candles and the Dusty plane. I was very pleased with how it turned out!
I added the checked fabric between the cake board and my cake stand to tie in the banner and the balloons.
I ordered cookies from the FABULOUS Sugar Threads cookie shop! They were divine! You can visit her Facebook page here! I’m definitely tackling that next! She is so talented!
Here’s my table scape! Just simple and sweet! I had extra cake from leveling off my layers so I made some cake pops, (which were a lot more difficult that I thought). We also had pretzels and peanuts (airplane food) and hot dogs with chips. I used plain blue table cloths for the back drop and my best friend Tabatha brought the balloons from the party store for me! I gathered all Landon’s toy planes and put them on the table.
Here’s our “jet fuel” station. I didn’t make any little signs but I still thought it was cute! Picked up my little drink dispenser at Wal-Mart for $17.00
Landon has this thing about holding his ears when people sing Happy Birthday. I have no idea why but it messes up my pictures! Oh well…at least Daddy helped him blow out his candles
Easton helping his open his gifts.
All in all we had a great day/party. Landon got great gifts that included a large, talking Dusty plane, new Underarmor shoes, clothes, underwear, etc. He had a great time with his buddies and family!
